It is so recognisable now and used by nearly every single bait company in the UK that you will do very well to use the tips given here to make it that little bit different and catch even more fish (especially when the going gets tough in winter and spring!)

You can alter or adapt the legendary carp bait additive called Robin Red in endless easy ways to make it perform better where carp are a little too used to it! If you like using spices, curry powder or chilli then add these and maybe CC Moore Chilli Extract liquid too. You can get water-soluble oleoresin products from formula-Carp for instance - Denzil Thorpe tells me his range are doing wonders!

Adapting or changing this famous additive in advance of use so it resembles something slightly different can really lower fish feeding caution and lead to improved feeding responses. Just some of the things I do is add linseeds soaked in CC Moore Lactose Concentrate with Super Cherry Amino compound, with fennel (and not aniseed) essential oil-soaked chopped fennel seeds plus pure maple syrup-soaked egg food.

Or make your Robin Red a little more different to usual why not add additional kelp meal, crushed hemp seed, Niger seed and canary seed and millet soaked in liquid liver or liquid yeast for instance with added Betaine and Talin intense sweetener?!

Other various versions I have prepared included, concentrated Garlic, ground clove powder, cumin, coriander, paprika powder, pimento extract, Chinese 5 spice, fresh cracked black pepper, and black pepper oil (among various oils.)

For a sweeter version you might go for cracked corn steeped in corn steep liquor and hemp oil, Vanilla Extract powder, Acai berry powder, and other natural extracts etc. Adding intense sweeteners such as CC Moore Ultrasweet boosts the natural sugar sweet taste-burst longevity of the molasses within Robin Red. I could mention adding many other effective changes but do try any of these for winter and spring (and the rest of the year too!)

A very reliable base for a bait is Robin Red steeped in Minamino liquid food with added Liquid Liver Amino Compound from CC Moore which seriously raises the nutritional profile of your bait and can be used as an excellent alternative bait soak boosted with pure betaine, Talin, and perhaps Fructose Concentrate to seriously boost bait impacts on carp in winter and spring!

Many soluble and highly digestible ingredients and extracts etc an be exploited in winter and spring baits alongside robin red type products. Soluble powders and liquids can be formed into bait dips, glugs and soaks so be creative!

Soluble fish protein L030 is a real winner! For example use 50 grams per kilogram of boilie base mix (or even use in unlimited amounts) with complete confidence! It is so water-soluble it is absolutely ideal for the low temperatures of winter and spring. (Do not forget the power of pre-digested fish protein too!)

Other additives can be used to seriously boost your baits impacts including:

CC Moore concentrated yeast powder. This has a unlimited inclusion rate and is ideal for winter or all year round use being more water-soluble than most yeast powders!

Enzyme-treated yeast powder. This improves potency and digestibility of your ground baits or boilies etc and really ideal in winter baits. Use about 200 grams per kilogram of dry mix.

Pure pharmaceutical grade liver powder is one of those things you need to try using! In winter and spring try including it at maybe around 10 percent of your homemade base mixes and ground baits.

The maize protein product called Supergold 60 is really good for open-texture baits and supplies loads of nutrition (60 percent protein.) If you want a chicken type then try using poultry protein meal.

Try using super pure betaine at 2 grams to 6 grams per kilogram of dry ground bait and if you want baits that really are different then try soaking any of your cheap boilies in a mixture of CC Moore Liquid Kelp and their Liquid Belachan or Shrimp Extract liquid. For a more alternative spicy winter and spring bait try CC Moore Red Venom with maybe their concentrated anchovy extract plus their Frankfurter flavour perhaps.

Do try CC Moore Fructose Concentrate totally natural intense sweetener! It is little-known and so is vastly under-used by anglers today. I find it an excellent as fish attractor and feeding stimulant catching many forties using it! Use 2-3 grams per kilogram of ground bait or boilies in winter, spring or all year round!

What can be said about CC Moore Feedstim XP powder other than it has hooked many of the biggest fish in the UK and is simply not to be missed - especially when the going gets tough! Try using 20 to 30 grams per kilogram in boilies or unlimited amounts in ground baits!

Cyprivit vitamin supplement: this is a must when you realise just how potently attractive this product is in so many nutritional and economical homemade baits. Vitamins are essential to carp and offer really a vital bait edge! Not many anglers think of using it so get on it before the herd does! In case you missed it, next time just taste the flavours of a vitamin pill when you take one and remember that carp senses are thousands of times stronger than your own!

I could go on and on about countless ingredients, additives, extracts, liquids and so on but here I will just leave you with a short-list of some easy to use and more familiar additves and ingredients so you will recognise them and maybe use them in alternative ways and combinations!

Corn Steep Liquor powder is a sweet very rich liquid food that you can mix into your baits with complete confidence it will bring them alive! Extra strength garlic powder and blue cheese powder have such impacts in low water temperatures. In garlic this is in part to the prebiotic nature of garlic (improving bait digestion,) the antioxidant impacts it has in fish, plus other well-known benefits and features.

Blue cheese powder is a potent smelling protein source with soluble salts and certain attractive acids etc are all part of its attraction. This powder is often used in winter and spring baits but I find it is excellent in boilies, pastes and ground baits all year round!

Vitamealo and skimmed milk powders offer great creamy taste and smell to ground baits and boilies etc and are able to cloud up the water very effectively being so water-soluble - not to be missed! These milk powders are fantastic in economical but seriously effective ground baits and boilies in cold conditions!

Many top anglers have used CC Moore Liquid Liver Extract for years knowing it is one of the most familiar and reliably effective liquid foods. For winter and spring ground baits and boilies why not make a unique liquid food mixture to use for various purposes? For example try liquid liver extract with really awesome power-packed liquid foods such as CC Moore Red Venom or their Meat Amino Compound packed with Marmite-like highly-digestible animal proteins ideal for winter and spring baits.

If you think you could benefit from improving the potency and uniqueness of your baits by being more creative and making your baits more exciting you are right; as doing this really can transform your catches - for life! Revealed in my unique big carp and catfish homemade bait secrets and readymade bait secrets ebooks is far more powerful information (- see my unique website Baitbigfish and biography right now for more!)

By Tim Richardson.

About the Author

Now why not seize this moment to improve your catches for life with these unique fishing bibles: "BIG CARP FLAVOURS FEEDING TRIGGERS AND CARP SENSES EXPLOITATION SECRETS!" Although ice fishing is a great sport and can provide lots of action it is not what we are going to be focusing on today. Since our bass fishing season is greatly shortened in our region by winter we need to take advantage of every chance we can get to hit the water. I do a lot of fishing in water that is from the mid 30's to low 50's in the spring and fall. Many of my co-anglers resort to hunting or other forms of recreation during this period just before ice forms or just after ice out when fish can be a little harder to catch. The truth is the fish tend to bunch up and are a little harder to locate but with a little effort and knowledge you can locate them and catch some trophy largemouth bass.

The number one thing people ask me when it comes to catching fish in cold water is where to fish. The traditional areas you would typically fish in the summer will rarely produce fish in the cold months. If you take a few minutes to look at a good topography map for the lake you plan on fishing it will greatly reduce your time locating the fish. First the fish will usually be near their winter hang outs in feeding areas such as rock flats in 10-20 feet of water and steep banks. One of the first place's I look on lakes and rivers is steep drop offs or bluffs with a 40-degree or more drop off that has access to deep water. I also take note on how fast that area may warm over the day from the sun. Bass will migrate to these warmer areas later in the day looking for a quick serving from and area of bunched up baitfish. Another place I will look are at the deepest part of points. Transition areas are also another great place to locate winter bass. Transition areas can be defined as an area where the bottom structure changes from soft to hard or maybe a rock flat to a steep drop off. If I am not finding bass deep in a natural lake I will try and locate some oxygen producing green vegetation in somewhat shallower water that may be holding fish. For river fishing I tend to gravitate to some of the same type of areas I look for on the lakes but also focus on eddies, break damns and large wood lay downs and boulders. On occasion you may find a warm area around a damn or hydroelectric power plant that has water flowing into it. Just remember to slow down your search and use your electronics to locate the fish. Typically the bass will be very bunched up and somewhat more difficult to locate than summer bass but with a little persistence you can catch a few.

In the early spring the best time to fish seems to be during warm fronts when the air and water temperature has been rising over a number of days and the sun is shining. The bass will usually move up a little and get more active. The baitfish they may have been feeding on all winter have been somewhat depleted and they need to start looking for other sources of food. In the very late fall or winter months I tend to favor cloudy days with a lower barometric pressure. Try and fish different times of the day but I can tell you from experience the later part of the day will be most productive followed closely by early mornings.

Once I have determined the spots I want to try I usually rig my poles with the same 4 types of proven lures. My number one lure of choice for largemouth bass when water is stained or muddy is a rubber skirted jig and trailer. My personal favorite is the new the Strike King Hack Attack Jig in 3/8 oz size and a baby craw trailer. I tend to scale down the weed guard and make the bait a little more compact by trimming the skirt. We fish this set up with Vicious fluorocarbon line in a medium or heavy weight on a bait casting reel and med to med heavy rod. My preferred colors are black blue, green pumpkin craw and texas craw. When fishing this bait it is so important to fish it very slow bouncing it off the bottom occasionally or giving it a little twitch when encountering cover. The next weapon in our arsenal is the hair jig or bucktail jig in an ¼ oz or 3/8 oz sizes . If smallmouth bass are at all present in the waters you will be fishing you cannot leave home without this bait. The bait is extremely effective to turn on smallmouth bass due to its compact size matching the bass's lowered metabolism. We base our color choice on the forage for the lake and typically try and mimic a crawfish or minnow. Generally we will fish this bait in waters 10-15 feet deep in water around 50 degrees and even deeper in 40-45 degrees, sometimes up to 30 feet deep. I like a stiff 6'-6" spinning rod with 6-8 lb test monofilament line for the smaller jigs and may go to a small bait cast reel with a medium to medium heavy rod with 12 lb test line for the heaver jigs in stained water. If I find the fish to be holding in a more suspended pattern and the lake is clear or slightly stained I resort to using a suspending jerkbait. I generally like to use a Kevin VanDam Wild Shinner in a chrome sexy shad pattern or chrome and black. This bait is ideal for catching those slow moving winter bass. The properties of this bait allow it to sit motionless in the water column right in front of that fish resulting in a strike out of instinct. We use a medium spinning rod and med size spinning reel rigged with 8lb test line to fish these jerk baits. Fish this bait slow and pause for 5-6 seconds in between short 3 to 4 foot slow retrieves. Sounds like a long pause but it gives the fish time to react to the bait. Last of all I never leave home without a large grub style bait on a ¼ oz jig head for both smallmouth and largemouth bass. This bait will sometimes produce when no other bait will work. Its simple design replicates a minnow and can be slow bounced off the bottom or cover. Always use your rod tip to slowly move the bait instead of a reeling action. We will use a color that resembles the baitfish the bass tend to be feeding on in that particular body of water. If the water is stained we sometimes go to pumpkin colors. We tend to fish this lure on med spinning gear with 6-8 lb test monofilament line.

Using these tips and a little patient's and you will soon become an expert coldwater fisherman. Don't forget the cold weather gear and always think safety. Whenever fishing in coldwater conditions wear your life jackets. Today's compact inflatable automatic life vests like the ones we use from Mustang are very comfortable and do not impair your ability to effectively fish. Be sure to dress warm and dry and you will begin to enjoy these days and extend your fishing season by a few extra weeks or even months.

Good luck

About the Author

Over 30 years of bass fishing experience. The action of the rod may be the same for all the people who cast with it and it may be different for every person who casts with it. Very few casters cast exactly alike. Their hand, arm, muscular and nervous systems are never exactly alike and they con sequently perform a cast with a rod differently than any other hand and arm, etc.

The skirmish of the majority rods will react substantially the same in support of all casters, however. When a rod does not react the same in support of solitary caster as any more, the skirmish of the rod in support of apiece caster is altered. That is, a rod possibly will be called a stiff skirmish by solitary caster and a med ium stiff skirmish by any more, and both are correct. The skirmish of a rod, so therefore, depends speedily on the actual caster using it and possibly will vary from caster to caster. We will discuss rod skirmish as it applies to dash rods, simply. The rod proceedings are simply discussed in universal expressions.

WEJT FLY ACTION: Years ago, a wet fly action fly rod was considered to be a rod that was very limber and which bent freely from the grip to the tip. The theory of such limber, soft rods was that they allowed the flies to fall gently into the water and the line to fall straight into the water. Either claim has questionable advantages under many conditions. Gradually, as the years have gone by, fisher men began to find out that these old buggy whip wet fly rods were actually poor rods for casting the wet fly and that rods suitable for dry fly casting generally cast wet flies much more satisfactorily. Act ually, wet fly rods are non-existent today except when a maker turns out a poor dry fly rod and sells it to some novice as a wet fly rod.

Hewitt action is identical to the Standard Dry Fly action describ ed below, except that the variations in the level tapered areas are less from a straight taper than the Standard Dry Fly action level tapers. In one of the last letters from Hewitt, he wrote me that he much preferred this type of rod to all others and that he never was able to wear one out or soften up the action of such a rod no matter how long he use it. This means something coming from Hewitt. He not only had used rods of various types for a great many years but used them a great deal ever year. As always, Hewitt had Leonard make his rods and he always had the highest praised for them.

There are many ways to build a dry dash rod or dry dash skirmish into a rod. Most of these methods churn out lovely dry dash rods. I will in brief depict a number of of the better acknowledged methods of producing dry dash skirmish in a rod. HEWITT DRY FLY ACTION: Edward H. Hewitt, as you un doubtedly know, was considered the unsurpassed dash fisherman in support of trout in the earth. There are individuals who are prone to decrease Hewitt s abil ities in support of not public reasons or self glory. However, I control not at all acknowledged or heard of someone from unfailing sources who might beat Hewitt in support of really putting trout in a creel. Hewitt used a rod with skirmish or the bending in the drop or center part but not as pronounced as in the standard Dry Fly skirmish. On a three part rod, in support of illustration, the superior partially of the center section and the drop partially of the tip control level tapers , with the purpose of is, the tapers are slight. This leaves these areas a little stiff. Such a rod has skirmish all finished but to some extent more of the bending is in the target section, the drop partially of the center section, and the top partially of the tip.

About the Author

Cram Fisher is the owner of www.allfishs.com

7 Deadly Winter Bass Fishing Tips

7 Deadly Winter Bass Fishing Tips by Daniel Eggertsen

Fishing for bass in the winter time can be extremely lucrative, but it is more difficult than fishing in the summer months. Many novice fishermen find it almost impossible to fish for bass in the winter time.

The most experienced fishermen take advantage of this because there is less competition. Fishing is all about doing research before going on a fishing trip. Most people do not take the time to carefully plan out a fishing trip. These 7 deadly winter bass fishing tips will help you to be a successful fisherman even in the winter months.

Come Prepared Many novice fishermen do not take the time to prepare for every fishing trip they set out on. Being prepared for a fishing trip requires lots of time and it cannot be rushed. The first part of getting prepared for a fishing trip involves setting up your tackle box. After you decide on which type of tackles to use you should neatly organize them in a tackle box. This will help you in the long run because you will be able to access things quickly when you need them. Another part of having a successful fishing trip is using the proper types of tackles. Choosing a Tackle One of the most important parts of planning a fishing trip involves choosing the right types of tackles. When choosing your tackle you want to choose the most realistic looking types of tackle. Many people think that the type of tackle they choose is not important. The type of tackle that you use can determine if you have a successful fishing trip or not. Bass fish like to eat sea flounder. Therefore, you may want to buy tackle that look extremely similar to sea flounder so that you can trick the fish. Drive Slow Many people feel the need to drive extremely fast when they are on the open water. Many novice fishermen make this mistake and as a result they scare the majority of bass fish away. This is why it is important to drive slowly when fishing. This will allow you to approach any school of fish like a stealth bomber. At the same time, it is also important to not make any student movements with your rod. This will also scare the fish away. As a general rule, you should be as quiet as possible when fishing for bass tips. Dress Warm Many novice fishermen make the mistake of dressing too lightly for Winter fishing. Depending on the region you are fishing in the waters can be extremely choppy. This is why it is vital to wear a heavy winter jacket that is also water proof. If you dress too lightly you will be thinking about how cold you are instead of thinking about the best ways to catch tons of bass fish. The other mistake that many fishermen make is wearing a winter jacket that is not water proof. This is a bad idea because if you get wet the water can freeze in side of your jacket!

About the Author

Dan Eggertsen is a fishing researcher and enthusiast who is committed to providing the best bass fishing information possible. There are several different types of fishing lures out there. In general, you want to choose a fishing lure that looks similar to an actual bug o fish.

Bass fish generally like to eat smaller fish as well as several types of small bugs and insects. Therefore, you are going to want to pick a fishing lure that looks just like a bug, fish, or insect. The top three types of fishing lures include lures that look like sea herring, insects, and bugs. It is extremely important to understand how to use these three types of fishing lures and how to know which ones are the best.

Many novice fishermen believe that all lures were created equal. The fact of the matter is that some fishing lures are significantly better than other lures. When deciding on which fishing lure to pick there are several things to consider. First, you will want to consider how realistic the lure is that you are considering buying. If the lure does not look realistic to you, it probably will not look realistic to the fish.

When fishing for White Bass you will want to research which foods they like to eat. In general, white bass like to eat fish that are smaller than themselves. They also like to eat many small insects and bugs in the water. If you do an online search you can print out pictures of these bugs and smaller fish and bring it with you to the tackle shop. This will allow you to compare the live fish to the different types of tackle that the store may have.

The fact of the matter is that fish are smarter than a lot of people think. Many novice fishermen make the mistake of underestimating the intelligence of the average fish. Many fish are aware of the fact that you are trying to catch them.

The reason for this is that many fishermen have tried to catch them in the past. Some fish may have been hooked before, but gotten away and survived. This results in the fish learning from past mistakes and being more careful when eating food.

It is also important to have a tackle box to organize all of your lures when you are on a fishing trip. The reason for this is that you want to be able to access your different tackles as quickly as possible. If you do not organize your different types of tackle in a box you ill quickly find yourself confused when looking for a specific type of tackle. Tackle boxes are extremely affordable and can be found at any local bait shop.

The best types of white bass fishing lures are the ones that have multiple hooks for bait on them. Some lures only have one spot where you can attach a piece of bait. Other lures have multiple hooks which allows you to attach more than one piece of bait. If you attach more bait you will be able to attract tons of fish to your fishing boat.

About the Author

Dan Eggertsen is a fishing researcher and enthusiast who is committed to providing the best bass fishing information possible. There are unlimited niches that offer opportunities for profit but how do you find them?

Finding a profitable niche can take time and effort and research. This is research that you must do in order to be successful in an Internet based business. Spending the time and effort here will make all the difference later as you build your business so take your time and be patient. Your diligence will pay off in the form of profits if you get this step right.

How can I find a profitable niche market? This is the question that every marketer and web masters asks themselves. It is also one of the biggest stumbling blocks that most new Internet entrepreneurs will run into.

Here are a few steps that will help get you started finding a profitable niche market for your Internet business.

It's time to brainstorm! Remember that when you brainstorm, nothing is off limits. Write down anything and everything that comes to mind. Try to write down anything and everything that you have an interest in and or knowledge about. Remember, don't leave anything out.

1) Make a list of all your Hobbes and interests. These are things that you have an interest in or have an interest in learning.

2) What are you good at? Write down all the things that you consider yourself an expert or at least well versed in.

3) What do you do for a living? This is what you do everyday so you must have some knowledge about it. Maybe it is related to something that somebody else would like to know about.

4) Who do you know and what do they do? What are their hobbies and interests?

5) Check ebay keywords (just do a search) Ebay provides all the keywords that people use to find things on their site. They are categorized alphabetically and in order of popularity. These are phrases that people are typing in to find something they are thinking about buying. Your goal is to create a list of as many ideas as possible. Now you can go through the list and narrow it down to the top five or ten choices. This is where the work begins. Now it's time to do some research to find out if anything on your list has possibilities.

6) To do that we need to find out some related keywords that people search for when looking for information about that topic. There are many keyword tools, both free and paid available to help you find out what people are looking for. Just do a google search for keyword tools. Word tracker has a good free tool that gives information on number of searches.

Start with a general keyword like fishing for instance. Now the odds of you being able to compete for the term fishing are not good with over 170 million pages listed in google for that term. However, a little research shows us that the term Fishing Poles for Kids only has 436,000 competing pages. That's much better.

Now, we can check the same phrase, Fishing Poles for Kids and put in quotes which is an exact phrase match, That will tell us that there are only 281 competing pages on google that are optimized for that specific keyword phrase. By checking googles free keyword suggestion tool we see that there are an average of 320 searches a month for that keyword.

Now you have a high demand and low supply keyword phrase and niche that you can exploit. You have a very good chance of getting a first page ranking on the search engines for that phrase and that gives you a good chance of making a profit.

This is the process that you must go through to find profitable niche markets that you can target for your Internet business and start profiting from right away. Finding a profitable niche doesn't have to be hard but it can be time consuming. It's better to spend that time now and find a niche that you can profit in than to invest time and resources building and site that nobody ever visits.

About the Author

Spending hours on end researching and trying to find profitable niche markets is normal for the Internet entrepreneur but it doesn't have to be. Find out how I find untapped profitable niches in minutes that I can target and profit from right now. These are a handful of very well proven expert tips to help you catch more winter and spring fish. Discover more now!
Carp do not digest bait very well in colder conditions so it is extremely vital you design and select your baits and ground baits for exactly this situation to maximise your greatest chances of bites and literally in effect stop actually wasting good money on bait! Of course one way to do this is use as little bait as possible, but this is only part of the solution and does not maximise your chances because you will not necessarily be applying bait and baiting in the optimum ways possible for best results. Many anglers will choose to utilise water-soluble PVA products in combination with whole or crushed boilies, yet you still have to pay for the PVA of course, however it baits-up exactly where your hook bait is, so drawing most attention to it without filling fish up.

The choice of bait these days means you need never worry about over-feeding fish but you need to know what will and will not over-feed fish in the first place and this requires some know-how. In general you need to avoid bulk oils and un-winterised oils in baits and avoid using too much free bait that takes a long time to break down in water. after all, if a bait is not very soluble it is likely to take much more energy and time for carp to digest it and this is something to very definitely bear in mind! Proteins are much better if they have at least been part-digested and fermented shrimp powder, whey protein concentrate, predigested yeast powder and enzyme-treated yeast powders for example are very well proven.

Of course you can apply as many various baits in your attack as you like, from readymade ground baits, to maggots, to hemp, to various crushed boilies and soluble carp pellets and so on, all in conjunction with PVA products and methods (and specialised bait feeding cages and droppers etc. Ground bait application is the art and skill that is a genuine cornerstone of successful carp fishing so it is absolutely essential especially in winter to do it to suit the situation and conditions taking into account all the possible variables that may challenge your fishing. Ground baiting for some carp anglers might mean launching spods of pellets or hemp or slop or method mix etc, instead of just firing out whole baits; which may well fill carp up too fast and bread is a very useful ground bait base often over-looked.

If you choose to exploit bread in winter and spring you will find it is not necessarily a small fish ground bait base; in fact far from it! In the coldest of nights you can get bites from big carp over bread-based ground baits and of course, know fish are gorging on free bait very little without actually sampling your hook baits with this method. Boilies in standard bottom bait, or pop-up bait or critically-balanced form etc all are reliable hook baits and always will be.

Increase your bite rate by improving the effective addtives and ingredients in your baits and ground baits that induce more sampling of hook baits having not fed fish up on free baits first! Water-solubility and digestible potential of your baits is paramount. Pellets and boilies made with little oil as possible (that make baits less digestible and less effective in cold water) are very highly recommended!

Many forms of popular pellets substantially lose their edge in winter owing to their high oil levels, including the halibut pellets and others which are designed as commercial feeds for fish with comparatively higher dietary lipid requirements. Pellets with low oil levels and wheatgerm are great for winter and spring carp fishing and you will normally get far more bites in the long-run fishing over such digestible free ground baits than over ordinary high oil halibut pellets for example. As oil is pretty much insoluble in water low oil pellets and boilies are much more able to draw fish towards your baited area as more water soluble attraction is dispersed more effectively in low water temperatures.

Robin Red is one of those famous winter bait and ground bait additives you can adapt and apply to almost anything just by mixing it into a mix or adding water or almost any liquid. Red Factor, Red Band, crushed hemp, Insecto Insecivorous, Nectar Blend and other mixtures such as Meggablend, Ccmoores Meggablend Red and Meggablend sweet are excellent as are yeast products and Phillips Yeast Mixture in winter baits. Essential oils and lecithins work their magic too and some are mostly under-dosed, while others are often over-dosed, so take the effort to discover correct levels!

If you add a liquid to your boilies and pellets for whatever period you choose whether long or short, you can raise the water-soluble proportion of your baits making them far more effective. Baits like particles, boilies, pellets etc all benefit from glugs, dips and so on, and so do fake and live baits such as maggots. These tips are just a sample taster to give you a perspective on the importance of you bait choices and the seriously important free bait application methods and ground bait formats you might select; preferably you will try to stimulate as many carp senses as possible at this time by gathering as many tips to help you as possible!

In winter and spring you get what you work for so to guarantee you save yourself money in wasted bait and on wasted blank trips, think about your carp senses-related issues around your hook bait and ground bait effectiveness and it will pay you back big-time; so read on...

By Tim Richardson.

About the Author
Now why not seize this moment to improve your catches for life with these unique fishing bibles: "BIG CARP FLAVOURS AND FEEDING TRIGGER SECRETS!" See these expert tips proven to work for more cold water carp again and again and save you money! Use these tips to help you right now!
Carp get filled by boilies and other potentially more difficult to digest baits, and it is well known that feeding too many of them in winter is not only often the kiss of death of a swim, but a big waste of money too which certainly does not maximise your chances of bites! Many methods have evolved to provide attraction near your hook bait without over-filling carp. Boilies threaded onto a water soluble PVA stringer next to the hook is very effective and this kind of idea has also spawned countless variations on the theme and really helps maximise bites, while minimising bait costs and usage.

In ground baiting for winter and spring carp it is wise to pre-bait if at all possible and then apply minimal bait while actually fishing, perhaps using soluble pellets, stick or method or spod mixes incorporating broken boilies as opposed to whole boilies at this time. You choice of what to ground bait with and how to do it is a skill and art form that very many carp anglers really need to develop far more as it is vital in manipulating suitable carp feeding behavioural responses to your hook baits! Ground bait using bread is a very reliable method and almost anything excluding indigestible oils can be added; for example boilie base mix and homemade boilie liquid additives and foods.

Bread is often and over-looked ground bait base and it is soluble and digestible enough to really be ideal for the job at this time, and it is very well known not to be just a small fish bait! Fishing over all kinds of forms of bread-based ground baits in winter and spring has proven successful time and again. You can always fish reliable boilies on your hooks and these will of course always remain successful.

Anything you do to raise the likelihood of a curious or hungry carp sampling your hook baits in winter and spring in particular are of vital significance. Solubility and digestibility of your free baits in extremely important so choose very carefully; winterised boilies and carp pellets low in oil are good examples. Low oil pellets designed specifically for carp (as opposed to halibut pellets for instance,) are far more preferable at this time and many great boilie recipes and pellets contain high levels of ingredients ideal for low water temperatures; such as betaine, and Robin Red.

If you find you struggle by still sticking with your usual halibut pellets for winter and spring ground baiting try something like CSL or hemp pellets instead! Cold water-soluble attraction is so vitally important to fish attraction at this time! Soluble attraction dispersing easily from bait through the water column is really the name of the game at this time. Adding Vitamealo from Ccmoore for instance to your ground baits and particles will really boost water clouding and add loads of water soluble milky carp attraction...

Glugs and soaks and dips based on liquid proteins, spleen and liver extracts, and things like herb and spice terpenes and flavour components like butyric acid and so on, really can help catches now. Extra liquid foods and boosting attraction substances will multiply the performance and catch rates on hook baits and ground baits ranging from bread to boilies, pellets, particles and even maggots and fake baits. Thinking far more about your winter and spring hook baits and ground baits, and their incredibly important method and rate of application is so underestimated by very many carp anglers; try to stimulate carp senses as much as possible and build on your knowledge of tips and edges to draw on!

When the huge importance of the relationships between carp senses and your effective (or ineffective) choices of hook baits and ground baits become cornerstones of your fishing attack, you will not stop until you have read as much as possible on this subject and gathered an extremely effective arsenal to stop you wasting as much money on blanks and wasted bait as possible; so keep reading on...

By Tim Richardson.

About the Author
Why not find out more how to maximise the money you spend on your baits in winter and spring and achieve better catches?! Unlike other Winter sports, it's inexpensive to get outfitted and with some easy to follow tips from experienced ice fishermen, a first-timer can have a good chance at success their first trip onto the ice.

But what does a beginner need to start ice fishing? One has a lot of choices when choosing fishing supplies in the stores, the Fisherman could easily shuck out 100's of their hard earned money on ice fishing equipment and never get what they really need.

To begin with, you will need to buy an auger meant for ice fishing to cut holes in the ice. I recommend a five or six inch auger for panfish like Perch, Bluegill and Crappie. If you want to go after bigger fish like Bass, Pike and Walleye, then I recommend a 8 or 10 inch auger. When it comes to augers, you have two choices, power augers or the manual augers. Not surprisingly, the manual augers are not as expensive as the power augers but require more effort to use. You will also need a scoop to keep the ice chips from the hole in the ice.

Your second purchase needs to be tip ups or an ice rod. A lot of fishermen drill numerous holes over rock piles, weed beds and other types of bottom structure and use numerous tip-ups to increase their chances of catching their limit of fish. Other fishermen prefer to ice fish with a ice rod rather than tip ups. I recommend a few tip ups along with a good rod so you can see which technique you prefer.

Care should be given when choosing fishing line for ice fishing. Regular fishing line will become brittle and break due to the cold weather or it will easily be cut by the edges of the ice. Special line designed strictly for ice fishing should be used. Nearly any retailer who carries ice fishing equipment will also carry ice fishing line.

Beginners will want to get some jigs and lures for your tackle box. Miniture jigs are great for Perch, Crappie and Bluegill. Also tear drop jigs and tiny spoons will come in handy when the panfish get finicky. As for bait, panfish love mealworms and spikes while larger fish such as Walleye prefer Worms or baitfish like smelt. Be sure to talk to local fishermen to see what's preferred on the waters you'll be fishing.

Be sure to get something to sit on. A majority of seasoned ice fishermen use an ordinary 5 gallon bucket. Some will even bring lawn chairs out on the ice, but a 5 gallon bucket will also help you haul your gear to and from your fishing hole.

And this is all you need to get started. Don't forget about buying a fishing license and read up on the regulations for the area you plan on fishing.

Make sure you get a list of safety rules for fishing on the ice. Every year, fishermen become stranded on the ice or fall through due to ignoring these rules. Little else can ruin a trip faster than falling through the ice. It's wise to follow along and fish in the same area as other ice fishermen until you get to know your body of water.

About the Author

Ice fishing gear doesn't have to cost a lot of money these days. You can find inexpensive, high quality ice fishing reels and other tackle on ebay. Make sure you choose the type of fishing tackle to your needs. Don't buy a fishing reel larger than what you need.

Protecting Your Outdoor Vehicles During the Harsh Midwestern Winter

Protecting Your Outdoor Vehicles During the Harsh Midwestern Winter by Simply Self Storage

The Midwestern region of the United States is one of the most diversely beautiful regions in the entire country. Nowhere else can you experience hot summer, warm spring, cool fall and freezing winter temperatures all in one state except in the Midwestern region. Midwestern states include areas along the Great Lakes such as Michigan, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. These states are known for their proximity to the water, making them great tourist attractions during the summer months for water sports such as skiing, fishing, diving and simple sunning on some natural and manmade beaches.

Protecting your outdoor vehicles in these states during the winter requires some effort on your part. It's not as simple as just throwing a cloth over your vehicle and hoping it will do. This is particularly true if you have a vehicle that is going to be directly exposed to snow, rain, freezing rain, ice and other hazards.

In most Midwestern states, when the winter first starts, temperatures are still mild and relatively predictable. Some days you may wake up to find a light dusting of snow or small frozen rain drops on your outdoor vehicle. This time of year is not of any significant consequence because typically what happens is that by midday the temperature has risen above the freezing point; direct sunlight is shining down on your vehicle and has melted the snow or ice and although it may still be very cold, your vehicle has probably been used and has warmed up so that no harm is done.

Once winter gets going good, around December for most states, there is snow on the ground on a consistent basis. Major roads and highways are cleared by snow removal trucks which also salt the roads making them nicely passable for traveling. But this is the time of winter that protection for your outdoor vehicles is significantly important. One of the major sources of damage to your vehicle is the very salt they put down on the roads to clear them so that you can drive.

Salt tends to adhere to the painted surfaces around the lower parts of your car, truck or SUV and, if left untreated, can eat away and erode not only the paint but the very metal of the vehicle itself, leaving damaging holes that can be expensive to repair. The best way to avoid salt damage to your vehicle is to remove it with a slightly damp cloth as soon as you notice it. Obviously this should be done only if your owner's manual does not suggest a different way to remove items from your surfaces.

Outdoor vehicles differ greatly from those that benefit from indoor or garage storage. For starters, outdoor vehicles are exposed to the weather's elements no matter what they may be. This is okay for vehicles that are designed to stand up to such changing conditions but to date, there are not many such vehicles which do. Meaning, if you expect your outdoor vehicle to last, you will have to invest in protecting your outdoor vehicle during harsh Midwestern winter conditions.

One of the most unpredictable and damaging weather conditions during the winter in the Midwestern states is the arrival of freezing rain or an ice storm. The more damaging of the two is an ice storm. Freezing rain can be for a few minutes or longer and usually is serious because it creates a thin layer of ice on surface streets and highways and can cause you to lose control of your vehicle. With freezing rain you can sometimes just wait for the sun to come out and because the layer of ice is a small one, the direct sun will melt it, leaving the street and other surfaces just wet.

An ice storm, on the other hand, leaves calling cards everywhere that it touches. Ice storms often happen overnight while you are sleeping and are relatively silent as they are occurring. Ice storms are very dangerous because the put a heavy layer of ice over everything from tree branches to your outdoor vehicle and more. Because the weight of this ice is much heavier, usually there are many reported instances where trees and power lines are too heavy and fall down.

This makes it important to store your outdoor vehicle in a safely covered place such as covered shed so that it will not sustain any major damage and be at least slightly protected from such elements.

About the Author
Simply Self Storage - What Could be Easier than Simply? Read On To Start Catching More Today

Want To Catch More Fish? Read On To Start Catching More Today by James Fletcher

If you go fishing from your boat it can be both an exhilerating and rewarding experience. You can however learn many things that will help you catch more fish next time you are out on your boat. The art of catching fish is great fun and everyone always wants to catch the biggest fish and heaps of them. So have a read to learn some tricks and secrets to help you catch more next time you go boating.

The first rule of fishing is to obtain the correct equipment. A rod no longer than 6 foot is ideal and having some reels is also a cheap and reliable idea. Rods should be purchased bearing in mind the fishing you will be undertaking but the trusty egg beater is a great beginners and allrounder package. Before you even start you should make sure you have some hooks, swivels, a knife, good quality line, sinkers, fish pliers and a tackle box.

Bait should be used bearing in mind the particular type of fish you will be targeting. Bait should look fresh and it should be kept on ice until such a time as you will be using it. You should try to bring a variety of different baits so you have a range of options. You could also bring lures if you want to target other species. Bring along as many lures and baits as you can as once you start fishing you won't be able to get any more.

Approach your fishing location as slowly as possible. This will prevent the fish from swimming off as soon as you get there. Once you reach the fishing spot throw some berley in straight away to attract the fish over to your boat. Get your lines prepared with as small a sinker as possible and have rigs setup to target the species you are after. After this is done you will ready to get going and start catching some fish.

As soon as you start fishing you should feel closely for any bites and stay patient. If you get a few bites you should strike back on the rod or reel to try to set the hook into the fishes mouth. If the immediate striking doesn't work try doing it later to see what works best. Every species of fish strike a piece of bait at different times so experiment and see what works best for you.

If you have got a fish on your line it is time to bring it in. You will need to keep the line tight at all times to prevent the fish from spitting the hook out and swimming away. If you are fishing with a rod, pull the rod back and then proceed to reel in as the rod falls back down to parallel with the water. Never point the rod upwards more than 45 degrees or it may break. A fish should be reeled in slowly and constantly so take your time and savour the experience.

Using a net will help you get the fish out of the water. Most fish get lost when you try to pull them onboard so a net will prevent these losses from happening. Pliers will also help you to remove the hook from the fish. If you do not intend to keep the fish that you have just caught it is vital to get it back into the water as quickly as possible. All fish are coated with oil so minimal handling ensures they have maximum chance of survival.

The information above is a great guide for how to catch fish but before you catch them you must be able to find them. Dark water with an interesting ocean floor is the best place to find fish. A fish finder or GPS will also help you find sharp cliffs and deep drop off's where fish like to congregate. Be patient with each spot you try but if you have no luck after an hour or so it is time to change spots. You can try where other boaters are fishing from but just remember to keep a respectable distance away from where they are fishing.

So now it is time for you to get out there with these tips in mind and start catching some fish. Remember to keep learning as much as you can about fishing. Everyone who can fish learnt it from somewhere so don't be afraid to continually learn new skills and techniques.

About the Author

James is a boating and fishing enthusiast. This may be due in part to the early elitist status of the sport. Even nostalgia tends to favor the masculine involvement in fly fishing. However, fly fishing is now appropriately recognized as a great sport fishing option for men and women alike. In fact, estimates are that there are well over one million women who now participate in fly fishing. Some estimates are that women now account for 15-20% of modern fly fishers.

Interestingly, the first book on fly fishing ever published was written by a woman. Dame Juliana Berners published A Treatyse of Fysshynge wyth an Angle in 1496. Berners is reported to have been a nun and noblewoman. Berners certainly must have tied and fished her own artificial flies. There are equally influential women involved in fly fishing today.

There is a growing market catering to fly fishing for women. Some outfitters are dedicated to teaching women to fly fish while other outfitters report that the number of women participating in fly fishing classes routinely outnumbers men. Fishing clubs for women are also becoming quite popular, particularly around popular fly fishing areas.

Fly fishing does not normally require a lot of physical strength. Fly fishing is far more about speed, finesse and style. Women actually do quite well at fly fishing.

The catch-and-release ethos so prevalent in fly fishing may be appealing to many women as well. While traditional fishing often closely resembled hunting trips with the objective being to bring home food, sport fishing activities like fly fishing often are more about the thrill of the catch. Photos and great memories are frequently the only thing brought home from fly fishing trips. The fish often stay right where they are. Many fly fishers even use barbless hooks now to make catch-and-release fishing even easier.

Fly fishing provides a great opportunity to get out in nature without having to kill anything. There are certainly women who fish to catch supper but many people, both men and women, enjoy fly fishing because of the opportunity it provides to get in touch with nature. Fly fishing is a very relaxing sport but also provides good exercise at the same time. The rhythm of the cast is soothing for many people. Fly fishing also provides opportunities to see a variety of wildlife and birdlife in their natural environment. The scenic backdrops around many fly fishing destinations are also simply incredible.

Fly fishing clubs and groups provide social networking opportunities and camaraderie. Men and women both enjoy these benefits. With the advent of specialty, women-only fishing clubs and groups many women are finding a home with fly fishing.

Manufacturers are also recognizing the significant increase in participation by women. Women can now buy waders that are actually designed for women - rather than relying on the closest mens size they can find. Fly fishing rods are also now being designed with women in mind. Womens fly rods are designed to be somewhat lighter and to have smaller handles. These improvements are good news for all women who enjoy the fly fishing sport.

Fly fishing is a great sport for everyone - men and women, adults and children. Everyone can enjoy a day out fly fishing.

About the Author

The author Joseph Elmes is the manager of the website online where you can get fly fishing reels and free fishing guide plus expert information on fly fishing basics. Many waders on the market have a breathable feature that will give you comfort whenever you confront extreme temps and waterways.
While it is nearly impossible to find one wader to match every season and application, chest-high stocking-foot breathable waders definitely come closest to fitting the bill. These types of waders are normally equipped with a waterproof and breathable membrane that helps keep water out while allowing perspiration vapors to escape though the membrane, keeping you dry and comfortable. This is especially helpful when wade fishing on warm spring and summer days, or when you are frequently moving in an attempt to cover water.

When the temperature drops in fall and winter, simply adding a good base layer beneath your breathable waders will keep you surprisingly warm, and when you have on your neoprene waders, a good hike to the river gets me soggy, even when the temps get real low. After fishing for thirty minutes or so, this moisture build-up has nowhere to go and you will end up shivering the rest of the day, totally defeating the purpose of the neoprene wader. Neoprene waders are reserved for the absolutely coldest days when you know you will not be doing a lot of hiking, but the rest of the time you will want a pair of waders that are more breathable.

Unlike waders with an attached boot, the stocking-foot waders will give you the option to adapt your footwear to the bottom composition of the waterway. If you only intend to fish the same stretch of water, then by all means, choosing a wader with boots attached that work for that waterway is fine, but if you are the adventurous type, then you will benefit from stocking-foot waders and the ability to adapt to the various bottom compositions encountered when fishing different waterways. As for the wader height, most preferr chest-highs because they are constantly wading out into water that ends up being just a little deeper than they intended. Plus, if you are fairly short, waist-highs only give you a couple of feet of water to wade in comfortably.

Additional reinforcement in the seat and knees for very high-stress and high-wear areas will provide additional strength and durability to ensure extended wader life. Waders that have the one hundred percent waterproof and breathable membrane is laminated to a high grade five-layer nylon upper. Some waders have a front hand-warmer pocket that will keep your hands warm in-between casts. Others have two external zippered organizer pockets and one inside utility pocket that will give you addition areas to stow gear.

Built-in gravel cuffs with lace keepers keep rocks out of your boots, and since they are attached, you will never forget them at home. Most waders have stocking feet that are made with comfortable high-density neoprene and accessory D-rings allow for the attachment of water bottles or whatever else you might need for a day on the water.

About the Author
Victor Epand is an expert consultant for sweatpants, sweatshirts, outdoor gear, sports clothing, and model motorcycles. Cairns Villa Resort and Leisure Park (28 Pease Street, Cairns 1800 644 861)

Another award winning park, you are only four kilometres from the city. There is plenty of room to move with ten acres of gardens, and a saltwater pool the perfect place for a cool down. All the essentials are here, along with a pool table, table tennis and tv room. What appeals to me is the location, so convenient to visit the local attractions or head inland and still come back to a relaxing environment. Very clean and excellent service.

4. Coolwaters Holiday Park (Brinsmead Road, Cairns 07 4034 1949)

Located only seven minutes from the city, you will feel like you are living in an oasis, with a freshwater creek and mountainous views in the backyard. This has my vote for its location and beauty, especially for those really wanting to get away and totally relax. Set in a tropical rainforest, you might want to stay put for a few days before you start exploring the rest of Cairns. The staff are great, with a guided rainforest walk, pizza night, entertainment, scone morning and lots more. The Kuranda Skyrail is just down the road, so you will be guaranteed plenty of action right on your doorstep. This park is an experience in itself, and thoroughly recommended.

5. Lake Placid Caravan Park (Lake Placid Rd, Cairns 07 4039 2509)

Just north of Cairns and below the Barron River Gorge National Park, the award winning Lake Placid Tourist Park is situated on acres of rainforest and is the ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. A fantastic base for your holiday, this beautiful hideaway offers many walking tracks with birds and wildlife everywhere, and children will love feeding the fish, turtles and ducks at Lake Placid. You are close to popular attractions including the Skyrail and Kuranda Scenic Railway, with Cairns, Port Douglas and Cape York all within driving distance.

6. Cairns Sunland Leisure Park (49-61 Pease St, Manoora 1800 786 5263)

Only four kilometres from the city centre, the Cairns Sunland Leisure Park offers a multi purpose destination for those wanting a base to enjoy everything the tropics has to offer. With a fantastic pool, waterfall and wading pool plus a great playground there's plenty for the kids. Enjoy the free barbeque sites throughout the park as well as a stocked mini mart if you don't feel like another shopping trip. This is my pick for being such a central and versatile park.

7. Port Douglas Glengarry Holiday Park (Mowbray River Road, Port Douglas 1800 888 134)

Close enough to Cairns to be worth including, this delightful park is only minutes away from one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Four Mile Beach. Nestled in spacious palm fringed grounds, the Mowbray River is close enough for a spot of fishing, bird watching or a dip in the resort style pool. This is fantastic for a few days or more enjoying another aspect of the tropics and the beauty of the top end.

About the Author
Jenny Brewer is a travel agent whose passion is writing. Everyone is wearing them from the construction worker in his Carharrt jeans to the fashion model in her Calvin Kleins. With so many styles and brands out there it is difficult to know what to purchase. You want to begin, of course, by knowing you are getting an excellent product for your money. You want a jean that will wear well and last a long time. Carhartt jeans are a perfect example of a well-made pant. Popular with the workers of this country, they work well for the active people out there, too. However, it is very important to purchase the right jean for your body.
Comfort

There is nothing fun or sexy about tight jeans. Most of the time they lead to muffin tops and acid reflux. When you try on a jean, you should be able to comfortably slide you hand between your tummy and the jean. Try sitting down when you try on your jeans and make sure they are not cutting into your midsection.

Color

In today's fashion world jeans come bleached and torn or embroidered and rhinetstoned. Stay away from the gaudy overly worked jean. A simple cut jean is the most flattering. In addition, go for the darker color jean. It slims down you whole body and makes your legs look thinner. Carhartt jeans come in several different colors including dark brown and indigo. Both are flattering to all body types.

Purpose

Before purchasing your jeans determine what you will be doing when you wear them. If they are just going to be for running about town on your days off than a simple boot cut or straight let jean is in order. If you are planning to hike, or do carpentry work or horseback ride you might want a jean that is a little sturdier. Carhartt jeans are the original workers' jean and are built strong and durable. This is a perfect dungaree for a busy and active work or leisure life-style.

Environment

Be cognizant of the type of weather and purchase jeans accordingly. If you are planning to be out in cold temperatures when you plan on wearing your jeans it might be a good idea to add some long johns under those pants. Or you can choose to purchase Carhartt jeans that are flannel lined. These jeans will keep you warm even on the coldest of days.

Storage

Storage might sound like a strange characteristic to consider when purchasing a jean but it could make all the difference. A jean that is being purchased for a person who is involved in construction, or hiking, or fishing, or painting might serve its purpose best with a lot of pockets for storage. These pockets can hold tape measures, fishing line, paint stirrers, a compass or many other items vital to getting through your day. Carhartt jeans have lots of pockets in lots of places to suit any storage hungry wearer.

About the Author
WorkWear1.com offers a great selection of Carhartt Clothing in addition to a wide variety of Carhartt Jeans and Carhartt Outerwear.

Mens Designer Watches Make The Perfect Gift

Mens Designer Watches Make The Perfect Gift by Dean Forster

Often times ladies like to purchase a gift of mens designer watches for their partner. This is a wonderful thought, but it can be rather difficult to accomplish. Hopefully this guide will help you to determine the perfect fit for your significant other, father, or brother. You only need to know the man in your life in order to find him the perfect gift.
You should know what kind of personality the man has. Does he have a strong personality, or is he more reserved or shy? Is he more into bold colors that stick out or does he prefer something a little less flashy? What type of occupation does he have? Will he want to wear this watch as an everyday accessory or just for special outings? Is he looking for a watch that is only for telling the time or is he looking for something more? And lastly, is the man that you're shopping for into sports such as fishing, hiking, or any other sport that requires him to be active? Knowing these simple things about the man in your life will help you have a better idea of what to purchase for a gift.

If his personality is more outgoing, he may prefer a larger watch. Something more flashy and showy is a good conversation piece and can lead to many more conversations for the talkative man. The shy friend might prefer to have a smaller watch with a brown or black leather band. The colors that men usually prefer are either stainless steal, black, brown, and blue. Anything other than those colors might be pushing your luck with your male friend. Be sure to avoid purchasing your new boyfriend a watch with a Disney character on the face.

For the men that are more into fashion you might be better off purchasing him a designer watch in the Cartier, Rolex, or other Swiss and European brands. For a more casual look you could try for Seiko, Armitron, or Dunhill. For a sportier look your man might prefer you to purchase something along the lines of Timex or Mount Royal. For the sports enthusiast you should have something that is waterproof and made of high quality to prevent breaking.

Know what your price limit is prior to the beginning of your shopping trip. This will narrow your ideas down to a certain price range, making it easier to make your purchase. You can shop online or in a store. Keep him in mind and picture how the watch would look on him. If you think it would look good on him, then go for it! If you have any second thoughts, skip that watch and keep looking. The mens designer watches market is huge and you are sure to find something that will suit your man. Keep looking until you find the perfect fit. Keep in mind that men are not usually as picky as women when it comes to accessories. A woman likes things to look a certain way and have two purposes, at least. The first purpose is to tell the time and the second is to have another beautiful piece of jewelry. A man likes his watch to have one purpose, and that is to tell the time. He likes to get down to the point, so anything beyond telling the time is a bonus for him. Relax and enjoy shopping for mens designer watches as a gift for your male friend.

About the Author
Read more information on all types of watches including Swatch Watches , rare watches and designer watches at => http://www.watchesworthbuying.com

Rod Building: Picking the Right Blank

Rod Building: Picking the Right Blank by Robert Feuring

An important decision when you are rod building is to choose the ideal blank. There are a number of considerations when you choose these blanks - it is the most important part of your fishing rod. Again, this is one place where you don't want to skimp on the equipment. Just don't take the plunge without doing your homework.
Rod Building: Blank Considerations

You definitely don't want to just start choosing blanks at random. That isn't going to help you be satisfied with the rod building you end up with. First, you're going to need to try out as many models as possible to decide which choice is the right one. Test cast the numerous models available. You want to find a blank that is going to work with your specific length and line needs.

Do keep in mind that not every rod you test will be available as a blank. You may want to do research on that before you start testing so you don't waste your time or fall in love with a cast you won't necessarily be able to build.

If you're looking for a good place to do some test casting, don't rule out dropping by your local sporting equipment store. Of course, you probably won't want to make your rod building purchases there before of their poor selection. Instead, you should visit several stores and also try out the rods used by your family and friends who are also doing fishing. If you have friends who also do rod building, you may want to ask them about their recommendations and ask if you can test drive their custom rods, too.

Other Rod building& Blank Buying Issues

When you're taking some of these rods for a test drive, you also want to remember that you can purchase identical blanks that are designed to be divided into multiple sections for easier transportation. Even these small differences in the blanks can make a huge difference in the way they handle. For example, if you've tried the two-section variety but end up purchasing the three-section variety instead you'll notice a difference and may not be satisfied with the results.

While we're on the subject of these sections, you should take into consideration how many sections you want for your blank. Generally, there are two to four sections in the average blank. If you haven't thought about it, now is the time. Two sections are fine but the finished rod will still be rather large for transportation. Three to four sections generally works better for rod building, even though it does require a little more effort.

Finally, you don't want to make a purchase without checking the warranties on the blanks. Today, the majority of blank manufacturers do offer warranties but these aren't all created equal. When you're rod building, you want to make sure that the components you purchase are going to be protected and that you won't end up having to replace something as soon as you finish your rod building.

About the Author
Rod Building Sea Isle Tackle has been proudly serving the saltwater fishing community for over 45 years. Without these tools, you won't get very far in the process. Now you could choose to use a kit the first time you try the process and that could be a good way to get some rod building experience. These kits usually include everything you'll need but when you're ready to build your dream fishing rod you'll want to invest in buying the materials discussed below.
Non-Fishing Specific Rod Building Materials

First, you'll want to gather some of the non-fishing specific materials that you'll need to have on hand when you are engaging in rod building. Many of these items may already be in your home or may be purchasable from local hardware stores.

One of the best examples is an Exacto knife - these are ideal choices because they are very sharp and also thin which is ideal for the work. You'll also need to purchase a few other basic items, including a rat tail file, rubber bands, a tape measure, a marker, some paint thinner, and masking tape.

Having a lighter is also a good idea. Additionally, purchase some epoxy. Epoxy is a type of resin that can be added and that hardens to make things stronger and to give protection. You'll want to get the fastest drying formula you can find. It will probably cost a few dollars more but the speed will make it worth the extra expense.

Finally, invest in a small paintbrush that will make it easier for you to apply materials to small parts of your work area while you're rod building.

Specific Fishing Equipment

There are a number of items that you'll want to purchase which will be specific for your fishing rod. Do your homework before choosing the items you want to have on your equipment. Remember the idea is to have a finished product at the end of your rod building that is superior to anything you could purchase off the shelf so you'll want the highest quality products possible even if they cost more. You can always buy pieces one at a time if necessary - your patience will be repaid in the end.

Some of these items you'll want to look for include guides. Aftco, Fuji, and Pacific Bay all make some very high quality guides which might be worth your consideration. Remember there are a number of styles of guides you might want to consider when rod building. Pick the one that will be best for your needs.

You'll also need a good quality blank. This is the basic part of your fishing rod so pick with care. Calstar, Gator Glass, Lamiglas, and Pacific Bay are four of the companies with the highest reputation when it comes to blanks. Most folks are under the false impression that there is a mysterious, trademark secret that I keep to myself. The truth is, there is no real magic to catching bass, but just some long proven strategies. Bass-catching success consists of several factors -- some of these may work for you, and some may not. Three of the most important techniques that I employ are:
Don't Use the Same Old Tricks

Fish recognize and learn to avoid consistently used lures. What does that mean? When you finally hear about the 'hottest' new fishing method, the fish are already learning to avoid it. The technique won't work as well for you as it did for those who employed it earlier. Experiment with your fishing style and learn to do things differently. This will increase the chances of bass to fall for your tricks.

Use Live Bait

While it may seem obvious, it is undoubtedly a strong tool in your fisherman's arsenal. We all know that using live bait is a pain; it's difficult to collect, maintain, and maneuver. But in order to catch the real prize, you can't settle for just plastic worms. To catch the fish, you have to give it what it wants. And what it wants is real live worms. Not using live bait will drastically decrease your opportunities.

Work With the Right Tools

Most bass fishermen miss out on catching some big fish because of faulty equipment. From broken lines to a straightened hook, low quality equipment is the blame for many mishaps. The most important thing for you to do is to use the best gear available, like a good line and a razor-sharp premium hook. It only makes sense to spend that little extra money to reel in the big one.

Bass fishing is one of most exciting recreational activities you can ever enjoy and there really isn't any secret to getting the bigger bass. But if you use some proven techniques such as live bait and working with some really good tools, you'll increase your chances of catching some real rewards.

About the Author
Nick Mack is actively involved in local tournaments and his tips and tricks are all over the net. Your tempted to use a bigger setup such as a longer rod, but this can make it hard to know when you've actually caught a fish. Using a light rod and reel is the ideal setup for beginners, even with one-pound bass fish, because this allows you to struggle with the fish and learn how they move. Only after you learn this should you prepare for stronger rods and reels.
To stock your gear, start with only what you absolutely need. Don't buy everything available just because you think you might use it - learn to use the basics, such as crankbaits and spinnerbaits. Choosing natural and bright colors is key here. This is because fish are naturally drawn to bright objects. Using natural colored plastic worms will also do the trick, allowing you to another medium for catching bass.

Similarly to the way you set up your gear, start fishing in small lakes and ponds first. You catch smaller fish, but the experience will be invaluable when you move on to bigger bodies of water and bigger fish. And if you've heard from all the pros, bass love to hide. For beginners, it can be sometimes frustrating to sit on the boat for hours with no success.

The best approach is to keep alert - look around at objects that in the water, including boat docks, piers, or buoys. Learning to identify objects quickly will help you spot bass in the long run.

When it comes to crankbaits, there is much to be said. With a crankbait, you can play with the speed and depth to find what works for you. In clear water, smooth movement with no surprises is often your best bet. In muddy water, however, varying movement will attract fish, so you have to learn to adapt your strategies to the water type.

For starters, use bait scent and try casting repeatedly with a colored lure - these may provoke fish to attack. And remember that if you can make the lure swim realistically, your chances of a catch will also increase.

Catching bass can be both fun and entertaining. Just be careful where you cast - you may get your lure stuck and lose it, which will cost you both money and time. Again, start slowly and instead of learning the tricks of the trade, learn the trade itself. Once you master the basic techniques and land small fish regularly, you can move on to the big ones with ease.

About the Author
Nick Mack is an experienced bass fisherman.
